[ToL - Team Valens] Contradictions
Nothing like drabbles to make me feel better. ♥ I should seriously create a tag for all these fics since I write them so often.
Title: Contradictions
Fandom: Team Valens [Team Fujibayashi-verse, but with Legendia characters]
Relationship: Senel/Chloe
Summary: Senel was not her boyfriend! Whatever made you think that?
Disclaimer: The original series isn't mine at all. But the details of their AU (and especially Senel's relationship to music) are mine.
Spoilers?: None for the original canon or the rp. Feel free to read even if you've never played Legendia. It's just two kids being adorable.
Tonight was the first time Senel ever cut music practice short. Most days, he would actually extend practice and play for another hour or two. He knew that it would happen eventually. He really did love music, though. He couldn't remember the last time he didn't sit down to play one of his many instruments. He didn't play the piano last week, and he couldn't bring his guitar aboard the airplane last summer. But to not play altogether? It would be his cardinal sin.
He loved to sing (though he'd never admit it to anyone); he loved the melodies his instruments created. Most of all, he loved to play with his band.
Chloe was the one who finally urged him to create a band. Since Senel didn't talk with his classmates, it took less than a day to form a group of interested people. Most were just curious. Senel, create a band? It was unheard of. Most bands had charismatic leaders. People who knew what they were talking about. They were outspoken. Loved their subject matter with all their hearts.
To his classmates, Senel could not be a band leader. From the moment he opened his mouth, he surprised them all.
He knew every single line and note of 'Breakfast at Tiffany's.' He could play the guitar solos on 'Sk8er Boi' (despite claiming he never heard Avril in his life)... if there was a song, he knew how to play it.
And not just English songs either! He knew the piano parts to most Mizuho songs, and could play most Trietan songs by ear.
He didn't want to improve his charisma. Purposefully, at least. Chloe noted with amusement that people just seemed to draw to Senel like moths to a flame. They loved him without even knowing it. There was just something about him.
She couldn't figure out what, but well. It was there.
Maybe that was why you've had a crush on him for forever, a voice in her head noted with slight amusement. Chloe blushed, furiously trying to beat that voice back into submission.
Sure, she and Senel were best friends! But that didn't mean that they were a couple. They couldn't be. They were the co-leaders of Team Valens. They had a professional relationship to maintain.
He was also a musician. Musicians are trouble. They care more about achieving that perfect melody and pitch than swordplay. Musicians are flighty. They move on from one thing to the next; they can't settle for long periods of time. Musicians also have committment issues. They're deathly afraid of the word.
But wasn't Senel different? He was the co-leader of Team Valens. She could always depend on him to be on time for that mission or rescue the cat stuck in the tree. He's always there.
Was there such a musician? Senel didn't exactly seem to follow all the rules. He knew his music like no other, but he didn't have the charisma others were expecting. He was a musician, but he was dependable. And his temper tantrums (if there were any) were predictable.
Could he possibly be your boyfriend, that voice taunted. He's certainly the kind of boy who could tame you.
Tame her? Chloe Valens, tamed by the sullen musician? Impossible. He was too busy with his music; he was too busy with his band. The very band she had urged him to create because he was restless and tired of practicing with the Bantam Bouncers. She'd be tired too if she had to play with her grandmother's in-house band!
Chloe decided then and there that Senel couldn't tame her. He may have saved her from drowning. He may have brought her lunch when she was sick. He may have created CD's for her to listen to.
But he was not her boyfriend! (N-not that she didn't think he wasn't kissable. He is very, very kissable. In that sullen musician way. And she was digging herself into a deeper hole, wasn't she?)
If he wasn't her boyfriend, then why was he sitting on her porch steps? No instrument in hand? She blinked, stopping right in front of him. "Coolidge."
He rose slowly and took her hand. "Chloe."
She blushed, wildly shaking her hand as she sputtered, "W-what?"
Blinking, he let go. "I'm sorry."
She stared at him quizicially. "For what?"
"Not always being there. Because of my band?"
She looked down at his hand and gently intertwined it with her own. "You're apologizing for that...?"
"Yeah," He slowly nodded. "Aren't best friends supposed to spend time with each other?"
(For a sullen musician, he was being unusually sweet.) "Well, yes... but, I don't mind. You love playing with your band, right?"
He slightly smiled, "Yeah. But being with you's cool too."
What was she suppoed to say to that? Chloe was sure her face was redder than a tomato; he couldn't stop complimenting her for a second! She didn't even think about her next actions. She leaned in and tightly hugged him with both arms around his neck.
"Phones."
"Calling me that again?"
She beamed as she leaned her head against his shoulder. "Yep, even if your headphones aren't here."
He sighed (perhaps out of exasperation?), but she could imagine the tiniest (if she squinted!) hint of a smile. "If I wore my headphones, they'd hurt you."
"You knew...?"
He shrugged. "I had a feeling. Never listened to 'em until now."
Chloe didn't want to let go. She knew she should have - even best friends don't hug each other for this long! - but that little voice said she could afford to be here a little while longer. Even if she finally had to let go when her uncle called her for dinner for the fifth time.
When she did, she smiled and subconsciously ruffled Senel's hair. "Night, Phones."
Senel watched her leave with dumbfounded eyes. He too left, but not before looking back at her house and saying to hmiself, "This was definitely worth a shorter practice."
