[ToL+KP] How We Met

I'm gonna admit, this story was a little unusual for me. Perhaps the dressing room rubbed off on me? In any case, this one's rare because Senel actually swears. There isn't any other reason why this one shouldn't be rated PG, though.

Oh, and yes: this is the same universe as Team Fujibayashi. ♥ I'm not sure if I'll write more, but this one was interesting.

Title: How We Met
Fandom: Team Valens [Team Fujibayashi-verse; Tales of and Kim Possible crossover]
Summary: Detention? Me, Chloe Valens, get detention? How... horrible.
Disclaimer: Not mine. Surely you guys know that.

Detention? Chloe Valens, get detention? When she first heard of it, she was sure it was a mistake! How could she have gotten in enough trouble to merit spending an hour after school with troublemakers?

But it was true. She had to serve detention just like the other people at her new school. Stomping her way into the almost empty classroom, the freshman stared daggers at the supervisor.

"Please tell me I don't have to be here," She said to him, arms crossed.

The supervisor apologetically shrugged as he pointed to the round table behind him. "I'm just the one watching you. Talk to the teacher who gave it to you," He replied, turning his attention back to his book (10 Ways to Get People to Listen). "Remember, no talking, no smoking, no... eh, at this point, I really don't care."

Chloe frowned as she took the nearest seat. Great. She wasn't alone. There were three other people sitting at the table, but only two looked back at her. The third, a white-haired boy with headphones, was staring absentmindedly at the posters around them.

Raising an eyebrow, Chloe looked up at the ceiling. So much for her perfect record. What would they say when she got home? And she'd tried so hard not to get detention, too. The Valens were honorable people who kept high standards. Detention didn't fit into their honorable lifestyles. That much she knew.

And she'd hoped that she would be the only one here today. She had purposefully scheduled a Friday detention after school - when everyone else had plans - so she could sulk in solitude. Fate, it seemed, had other plans and decided to throw three other boys in there with her.

W-well, she hoped that the guy with black, long hair staring back at her was a guy. The long haired boy stared from the teacher to the door behind her. What was he expecting? An escape? Not likely. If you had to serve detention, you did it. You didn't skip out on it no matter how much you wanted to.

BOOM!

Everyone - even the headphones guy - jumped in their seats. Dropping his book, the teacher immediately ran out the door. Turning back to face his charges, he called, "Remember! You've still got thirty minutes, all of you! Don't think of leaving just yet!"

The door shut behind him as he ran.

"Darn," Headphones guy said, taking his gold headphones off. "Looks like I won't be leaving early today."

Chloe narrowed her eyes at him. "Despicable."

Headphone guy blinked, then looked away towards the other posters.

"So, uh..." Chloe had seen the other guy, a redhead, when she entered the room, but didn't think much of him at first. Sure, he had tanned skin and this weird necklace that made him stand out among the students at Rexalia Academy.

Chloe sighed. "To think I'd be in detention."

The redhead grinned. "Aw, it can't be that bad. And we only have thirty minutes left."

"We're not supposed to talk," Chloe muttered, placing both hands under her cheeks.

Headphones guy blurted out, "Who cares?"

Chloe and the redhead stared back at him. "You... talked!"

"Is it that rare," Headphones guy muttered, tapping his feet to an unknown rhythm.

The two nodded.

"You don't even talk in class," The redhead replied, brushing his bangs back. "Not unless you're spoken to, at least."

"It's not that weird. Lots of other people do it."

"Yes," The long haired guy cut in, looking quite amused. "But not everyone wears headphones at all hours of the day. I'm amazed you still pull decent grades."

"And then the other guy talks," The redhead cheerfully commented. "Boy, today must be different from the rest."

"Not like there's much else to do," The black haired guy remarked with a grin.

Chloe watched them quietly. Of all the people in school she had to get stuck with, why these three? They couldn't be any more different from each other. One was obsessed with music, one was naive, and the other was pulling all the strings. Where did that leave her?

She decided that she didn't want to know. "... May I ask for your names?"

The redhead and the headphones guy - Phones - exchanged glances.

"You... don't know our names," Phones blinked. "You're new, then?"

Chloe blushed, looking away from him. "I don't make names a priority all the time."

"Definitely new," The redhead grinned. "That's fine with me."

Again, what was up with the 'new girl' talk? Was it that obvious that she had transferred in this year?

"So you're one of the new freshman," The long haired guy smiled eerily. "It's a pleasure to finally see you."

"Explain to me what's so special about being new," Chloe demanded, leaning back in her chair.

Phones replied, "Everyone knows everyone else at Rexalia. I thought you would've known our names, at least." He shrugged, looking down to fidget with his iPod.

"It's fine, Chloe," Redhead said. "Name's Moses Sandor. I'm a frosh like ya."

"Senel Coolidge," Phones added, putting those headphones back on. "I'm a freshman too."

"O-oh," Chloe muttered, looking down to hide her beet red face. "Then... you know I'm Chloe, and a freshman as well."

"Pretty much," Phones - it was hard to call him Senel, with those gold headphones on - and Moses replied in unison.

The long-haired guy smiled. "Jay. I'm in eighth grade."

Everyone jumped.

"Wait, what? A middle schooler? Here?"

"Eighth grade?"

"Whoa, little buddy. How'd you get detention?"

Jay sighed, shrugging with both hands. "Must you all be so loud? I'll answer when we leave."

Chloe's eyes narrowed. "Do you enjoy playing with us?"

"It beats playing video games."

Argh, he really did! It was all Chloe could do to keep from screaming. No, she had to remind herself to stay calm. Only twenty minutes left now. She could do this. She could keep herself silent and hopefully get this detention written off her permanent record later. She would be able to keep a perfect record later. Think of something happy.

Jay peered at her closely. "Say, Chloe? What would you do if I said that I had a way to offset your detention?"

Chloe crossed her arms. "Oh? And what would that way be?"

"Have you heard of Team Fujibayashi?"

Phones and Moses stared at him now.

"Team Fujibyashi," Moses whistled. "Who hasn't heard of them? They're like our world's superheroes, constantly fighting against bad guys and saving Aselia like every day now."

"Of course," Chloe replied, blinking. "Why?"

Jay smiled, reaching into his bag to pull out a composition book. "Team Fujibayashi's looking for more members. To be more precise, they want to branch out and create more teams in Aselia to lighten their load."

"So... you're saying I should create a team of people to save the world?"

Phones stood up. "No way. Count me out."

Staring, Jay continued to smile, "Oh? But I haven't said anything yet."

"I know what you're gonna say," Phones replied, putting one hand on his hip. "You're going to want me for one reason or another."

"Maybe. But with that attitude, I don't think we'd want you on board anyways."

"Hold up," Chloe called, putting her hand forward. "We? I don't remember agreeing to this."

"Think about it. You'd be doing simple rescue missions like rescuing family pets and patrolling the seas around Werites Beacon. We wouldn't be doing heavy work like Team Fujibayashi."

"And what's the catch?"

"Does there always have to be one?"

Moses sighed, placing a hand under his chin. "So... are we gonna be like that ninja team or what?"

"Who knows," Phones shrugged. "It looks like they're going to take a while."

"I heard that," Chloe retorted, glaring back at him. Phones sighed. Turning her attention back to Jay, she responded, "It sounds interesting. Can this erase my detention?"

"I'm not a miracle worker," Jay sighed in exasperation, "But it should be able to offset it and make your college resume look somewhat decent."

Chloe's eyes lit up. "College resume?"

"Of course. Apparently, the members of Team Fujibayashi are already being scouted by top colleges for their talents."

Not even five seconds passed before she said, "Count me in. It sounds interesting."

"Great," Jay beamed. "We just need a couple of good fighters." His eyes immediately went over to Phones and Moses.

Phones took a step back. "Nuh-uh. You're not getting me in."

"Don't see why not," Moses shrugged. "Sounds like fun!"

"Aw," Jay said. "You don't want to join, Senel? Such a shame... I could possibly tell the entire school about your little secret."

Phones paled, staring back at Jay. "H-how do you-- Nevermind. You're trying to make me join through blackmail?"

"Stop it, Jay," Chloe cut in. "If Senel doesn't want to join, then don't make him."

Phones flashed a grateful smile in her direction. Jay slumped in his seat, frowning. "If you insist. But we'll need to get a fourth member eventually."

Chloe blushed, looking away from Phones the minute their eyes met. "Eventually," She repeated. "But for the moment, Team Valens'll be fine with three members."

"Team Valens?"

Chloe blushed. "Isn't it obvious? I'm the leader, therefore it'll be named after me."

"I don't really care," Jay shrugged. "But it looks like the other two mind. ... Huh. I thought you weren't joining, Senel?"

Phones made a face. "Of course not. But wasn't it your idea to start up this... uh, team?"

"Yes, but I like it better this way. I can do more work without being uninterrupted."

"If ya say so," Moses responded. To Phones, he remarked, "I think it'll be fun! Going out on the seas, running through the mountains with Chloe and Giet... you'll be missing out on great fun, Senel."

"Depends on your definition of fun," Phones stared back at him. "I'm fine as I am."

"Whatever you say," Jay commented. "We'll talk later about this. I have a feeling the teacher'll be coming back soon."

Phones crossed his arms. "How do you know---"

"Sorry I'm late," The teacher cut in as he opened the door. Staring at the four students, he sighed and then motioned to the clock. "Some kid had an accident in the chem lab. Took quite a while to clean everything up. You're free to go."

Moses took no time in getting his bag and leaving.

Jay yelled at him, "Hey, hold up, Moses! You forgot to give me your cell number!"

Turning back to face his friend, Moses grinned, "Aw, I don't have one. Just call me at home. Sorry, I've gotta hurry, or I'll miss Csaba!"

With that, he left the other three in the dust. Jay blinked, staring down at his hands. "How can he afford to not have a cell phone? I suppose I'll have to fix that one."

"Jay," Chloe began, hanging back as she watched him pack up. "... Um, thanks. I really owe you for this."

"It's nothing," He smiled. "Just give me your number, and we'll talk later."

Chloe scribbled her number down in his book, swung her bag across her shoulders, and walked off with a wave.

Only Phones and Jay hung back in the classroom again. Phones too packed up his bag, though he didn't stop staring back at the black haired boy every now and then. Just before Jay left, Phones called, "Don't you think you're taking advantage of them?"

Jay glanced over his shoulder at him. "What on earth do you mean?"

"You know what I mean. You came here on purpose for her."

Jay raised an eyebrow. "And what makes you say that?"

"You're too good for detention," Phones responded coolly. "I know you come here because you want to."

"Oh, you've done your research," Jay sighed. "I'm impressed."

"What do you want?"

"A show. It'll be entertaining, don't you think?"

Phones narrowed his eyes. "I don't care for your schemes. You'd better stop it before you start hurting other people."

"Says the kid who won't tell other people about his family."

"... My family's none of your business," Phones gritted his teeth. "So shut the hell up."

Jay smirked. "Hmmm. Hit a weak point, didn't I?"

Phones didn't respond. Taking the hint, Jay waved carelessly as he left the room. "Mark my words, Senel Coolidge. I'll make you a member of Team Valens some day."

"Over my dead body," Phones muttered to himself. Turning back to face the room one last time, he added, "... That's the last time I punch someone and get detention. I'd rather not face a repeat of today."
