[TMM - Kokoro] The Other Side
This was actually my tip for
cherryfox, since I couldn't pay her in Gaia gold for my commission. <3 I hope you enjoy this one too.
Title: The Other Side
Fandom: TMM - Kokoro
Summary: "He couldn't be that smooth talker from Cafe Mew Mew. He just couldn't."
Disclaimer: Nilos Sage, Hoshizen, other mage schools, the characters at Hoshizen, and Ari are mine. Ryou, obviously, is not.
Hoshizen was a relatively small school, with the maximum number of students being eight hundred and fifty (and that was in this year alone). Shikari supposed that it was because there were other magical schools in town - there was Phantasy Preparatory School for Girls, Mizuho University School (that was the all-boy school in town), and so forth.
That was why it was no surprise when the students encountered someone new: they rarely got new visitors, much less one that should be graduating this very year.
Normally, Shikari didn't take too much part in this gossip: she preferred blabbing other's secrets to people that she actually knew, not blabbing secrets about the others to people that she didn't know.
"Shinga-chan?"
Her classmate's voice jolted her back to reality. Glancing over at him, Shikari managed a smile. "Yes, Sage-kun?"
He gestured over towards a blond standing at the fountain. Even though there was some distance between Ari, her male companion, and their gaggle of friends, she could still see that he looked rather lonely. It was almost as if he couldn't belong here, no matter how much he attempted to..
In a way, she felt depressed just by looking at him stare into the fountain and his own reflection.
....That was when her books flew out of her hand as she looked at his aquamarine eyes.
There was no way that the depressed boy sitting away from her and the confident, smooth boy known as Ryou Shirogane could be the same person. It just couldn't compute in her brain.
As her companion picked up her books, he noted her surprise by saying, "Shinga-chan? Do you know him?"
She nodded, pressing her lips. "I think so... if I'm right, he's Shirogane Ryou."
He stared at her. "No freaking way."
"You've heard of him?"
The boy laughed. "Tch. You're asking Sage Nilos, the boy who reads everything he sees, if he knows who Shirogane Ryou is? Course I know of him - just not personally."
Ari nodded slightly. That was probable - there were classes being taught on his findings in Science (though Ari doubted that the teachers actually liked teaching about them). "Yeah... you're just as surprised as I am, no?"
Nilos nodded, crossing his arms. "Definitely. From what I've heard, his depression isn't suiting him. But.. erm..."
He paused, watching as a group of boys confronted Ryou.
"This isn't going to be pretty, is it?" Nilos finally said, looking away from his friend's gaze.
To be honest, Ari wasn't quite sure how it would turn out either way. Ryou probably could smooth talk himself out of this situation, since it wouldn't turn ugly (at least, she hoped that the seniors weren't stupid enough to throw away fifteen years of schooling and their college years by attacking a kid genius)..
Ryou seemed to look as surprised as Ari; he looked away from the boys, as if he wasn't sure what to say.
She closed her eyes... it couldn't be happening...
"Hey, Shirogane-san! Don't be such a party pooper."
Nilos blinked, glancing at either side of him to notice that there were two people who had fallen over - Ari onto the grass, Ryou into the fountain's water.
As Ari rose, she watched Ryou take the hand of one black-haired boy reluctantly. The group of boys laughed about a small joke, and much to her own surprise: she saw Ryou smile in a way that she had really never seen before.
"Hey, Ari?" Nilos smiled at his companion. "You okay?"
She nodded, returning the smile. "Yeah, I'm fine. And I think... that Shirogane-senpai'll be fine too."
