Asking Wally to spar with her, in retrospect, had been a bad idea. Not only had her best friend cheerfully agreed, he'd also arranged for his backyard - the perfect hiding place - to be their battlefield. The moment Vasanti stepped onto the cool, damp grass, she immediately shivered. This could probably beat all of her "very bad ideas"---combined.

Pumping his fist in the air, Wally laughed. "Hey Vasi! You ready to get your game on?"

She could see their friends (Karen, Vance, and Roy) sitting on the porch and sipping some freshly-made chai tea. Of course they'd enjoy this! They'd lord it over her, laugh about it later, maybe even post the battle to WizFace and get some stupid elf to make faces at her later---

Vasi took a breath and fished out her quill from her pockets. "Yeah," she responded after a moment, taking care to keep her voice even. "Let's get this show started."

Funny how Wally - her sweet, ever-cheerful Wally - never seemed to mind her snappy tone. He simply nodded his head and brandished his yo-yos dramatically. Without hesitation, he dashed forward and swung his left yo-yo towards her face.

"Guardian!" She held her hand out and shielded herself from impact. The yo-yo flung backwards and nearly missed Wally's bicep. He winced, jumping back and swinging his weapons in the air.

"Cheater," he grumbled as orange and yellow runes appeared beneath his feet.

Vasi giggled, "You should know my game by now, smart one."
