[Honey's Sweeter] A Night In

Title: A Night In
Fandom: Uncharted + DC Comics Crossover
Universe: Honey's Sweeter
Relationship: Tim Drake / Shikari Shinga [OC]
Summary: Tim just wants to stay home, but Tori thinks he has ultieror motives (read: dating her translator).
Notes: Timeline-wise, this takes place before Graduation (Tim and Shikari are the same age), but I'm not sure if it's canonical.

The night was young, but your bones had grown far too weary for adventure. In the past two weeks alone, you had singlehandedly brought down Ra's (again); coaxed the Creeper into jail; disbanded a cult that had taken over your high school; and organized the best D&D tournament Atlanta had ever seen. No matter how much your sister wanted you to join her "on the prowl," you declined each offer. You were a Drake too, dammit, and sometimes, Drakes called it a night and stayed home with their PS3 and Final Fantasy games.

Just as you wrapped a blanket around yourself (Mom had stolen all the Snuggies), you turned the corner only to see Tori and her translator arguing in the stairwell. Ever since Tori and her translator had returned from their latest job in Bangladesh, they spoken maybe ten words to each other in two weeks. Dad pretended to ignore their spats, while Mom tried and occasionally succeeded in intervening. You just wished you had Russell's magical ability to diffuse any fight. Without him, this house just got ten times more chaotic, and you occasionally felt as if you were drowning in a sea of tension without a lifeboat to pull you in from the tide.

You couldn't exactly pick a side, either: while Tori was your sister, her translator - Shikari - had grown close to you in the past few months, ever since she stormed into your bedroom and demanded to know where you kept your D&D manuals.

"Y-you like D&D?" You had stammered weakly, once you remembered your vocabulary and your manners.

She had just glared at you, in that manner of 'girls can't like D&D?' before she stood on her very tip-toes and grabbed the manual you had pointed out.

"I-I didn't mean it like that," you kept stammering, wishing to dear God that you could have hidden behind Robin's mask. Robin was confident, bold, and even a ladies' man. He could have seduced any girl he pleased, but Tim? Tim could barely hold it together when strong-willed women entered his life. "I mean, I don't normally encounter people that like it, much less people... that are... staying with me..."

Uncle Tom had introduced it to you as a kid, and you hadn't exactly let go. What had initially started as a way to pass the time at boring family reunions had become a family pastime, and you eagerly anticipated family sessions (with Bruce being the occasional guest member).

You'd expected Shikari to blow up at you, with the way her fiery-red hair stood on edge, but she simply smiled at you, with the edges of her eyes crinkling as well. "Yeah, I do. Think we can play together sometime, if you're not so busy?"

"Yeah."

She had clutched the book tightly in her hands, before ducking her head and walking just as quickly as she had entered. Shikari had become a welcome presence in your life, and you honestly hated how she and Tori couldn't agree on simple matters anymore. Half-tempted to interrupt them, but you only took one step forward when--

"What do you mean, you're not going to return it to the Nahars?" Shikari was almost shrieking, wringing her hands and ignoring the loud 'clanking' of her bangles. "It's a cultural treasure, Tori! It doesn't belong in the BNP's hands!"

"Money talks, Ari." Your sister looked almost befuddled as she folded her arms and leaned back against the wall. "Maybe the Nahars should pony up."

"Or maybe I should burn it," Shikari grumbled, turning on her heels. Her long henna-dyed hair fell neatly onto her shoulders, in a fashion that your sister (and most Caucasians) could only wish to emulate. "Sometimes, I swear, you are so white."

Just as she was about to storm off, you reached out and lightly held her wrist. "Shikari?"

She glanced up at you, furrowing her brow as she tried to crack your poker face. Shikari (you insisted on calling her by her full name) was a terrible liar. Tori was pissing her off - and for good reason, apparently, if Shikari was pulling the racism card.

"What do you want?" Shikari finally asked, frowning as she stared down at your hand, and how pasty your skin looked in contrast to her richer, golden-brown tones. You had never exactly felt super white before - at least, not before she showed up. "I thought you were going to stay in."

"I am," You said lightly, adding some levity to your voice as if you had never overheard their conversation, "But I thought you might want to join me, since, you know, you kind of live here too."

Tori raised both her eyebrows. Ignoring her pointedly, you put on your best smile and gestured towards the den. You knew Shikari couldn't resist the siren call of video games - especially when she had helped you organize that D&D tournament - and you knew that unless you intervened, your sister and her translator would accidentally start WWIII.

Shikari hesitated. "Um..."

"Come on, it'll be fun! Pretty please?"

She bowed her head shyly. "Okay. Only 'cause you said so." Without another word, she ran up to her room (one of the guest rooms), presumably to grab extra pillows.

Tori whistled softly. "So that's why you're not looking for a date."

Huh? You stared blankly at her. "No, I'm just tired and wanted to stay home."

"Suuuure. You're 'tired' so you asked Ari to play video games with you and maybe curl up on the couch and sneak in a kiss or two..."

"As if." You sighed, putting a hand on your hip. Didn't she remember Stephanie? You weren't exactly keen on jumping back into the ring anytime soon; her faked death had done a number on your psyche, and you weren't mentally ready to enter another relationship so soon. Even if Shikari was kind of your type, with her nerdy interests and ability to speak every language known to mankind. Plus, you kind of already lived with her, since she was studying abroad in America for her senior year of high school.

If you wanted to date her, you didn't feel right sharing the same house. What if something went wrong? He couldn't avoid her when they very well lived across the hall and made breakfast together every morning.

Tori held up both hands in defeat. "Fine, but I get to say I told you so when--"

"When what? When Tim goofs up again?" Shikari called as she sprinted down the stairs, giant pillow held between her arms.

Tori snorted. "Sure, we'll go with that." As she headed towards the back door, she leaned in and affectionately kissed you on the cheek. "I'll try not to pick up your next archnemesis."

Shikari stared blankly at Tori as your sister left, snagging the car keys on her way out the door. "Archnemesis? I thought she liked girls."

"She does." You offered unhelpfully, turning towards the den and lightly wrapping your arm around her shoulders. Maybe it was a bad idea to show her physical attraction when you lived in the same house, and maybe it was a bad idea to even think of your sister's employee as more than a friend, but...

Maybe sometimes your sister was right, and you liked whoever you liked, no matter how dumb or stupid it was. For your sake, you just hoped that nerds of a feather flocked together.
