Afternoon at the Library
I've been writing random one-shots with OCs that you may recognize from my other rps. ^^; If you can guess who the OCs in this fic are in other roleplays, then you're given a free one-shot. (And this is one of the rare times I will be writing implied IxR, but *ONLY* implied IxR like in my Kokoro fics. >>;)
Title: Afternoon at the Library
Pairing:Implied ArielxMax; DavisxHazel.
Summary: Told from both Ariel and Max's POVs (alternates between the two of them). Ariel, Davis, Hazel, and Max are assigned to spend an afternoon in the library sorting books. But how does this afternoon turn out?
Disclaimer: Everything in this story is mine, I tell you, mine. >___<; Steal any ideas, and you'll be in trouble..
"Max? Davis? Hazel?"
I bit my lip. Where the heck were my friends when I needed them on a day like this? Here I, Ariel Sanford, was at the library - and I was stuck to do this almost impossible task by myself. It was supposed to be the four of us, but it seemed like they had forgotten all about helping out.
What task was I talking about? Why, I was talking about sorting the shelves in the library at my school. But since my school wasn't an ordinary school (just to let you know, private schools are never normal schools. According to my teacher, we're using books meant for high schoolers. Now that's a scary thought..), that meant that the books at my school were pretty hard to sort. No, it wasn't because the library was "magical". It was mainly because our library at school was so darn huge...
"Hey there, Ariel. Did I miss anything?"
As the familiar voice called out towards me, I couldn't help but give a weak smile. As the speaker came closer, I couldn't help but make a face at his choice of accessories.
"Did you *have* to wear that necklace again, Davis?" I asked, blinking as I looked over at my twin brother.
"You know that this necklace also holds my weapon, don't you?" Davis replied, muttering words under his breath that I couldn't quite catch. I simply shook my head, rising up from my position on the floor to greet him.
"Is Haze and Max with you?" I asked cheerfully, managing to give him a weak smile.
Davis pointed over towards the bookshelves on the lower floor. Glancing over in the direction of where his finger was pointing, I could make out two figures near the shelves. My face melted into a childish grin as I let out a sigh of relief. Thank the heavens that I wasn't alone..
"Well, then. Let's get to work, shall we?"
--------------
"...."
I glanced over at Hazel. As she was sorting the books, her eyes were focused completely on her current task and nothing else. It didn't matter who or what was near her. All that seemed to matter to her was the fact that she had a task, and this task needed to be done.
AKA, it was typical behavior for Hazel. I seemed to still be uneasy when I was near her whenever she was working on something, since it seemed like she had no time for her friends. But as Davis told me later, it was simply because she wanted to spend more time with her family and her friends..
I shook my head, before returning to work. I should probably help out too, since it would make Ariel's day. But.. I couldn't help but wonder. Why did she call me to help her out? She could've easily called Callie or Chris to help out, but no - she chose me. I could see why she chose Hazel - Haze was Davis's fiancee. Yes, fiancee.
In our world, arranged marriages were common. In Ariel's family, her parents had chosen people for Ariel and Davis.
But, but... was Ariel happy about this? I would probably never know the answer to that..
---------------
"Hey, Davis.."
I tapped my brother on the shoulder with my free hand. The other hand held a book, which I would probably end up whacking him with if he didn't answer me sooner or later.
Davis turned his head sideways to face me, but was still working. His eyes darted back to the bookshelves to make sure that the books were in perfect order. Satisfied that his work was done for the time being, my twin turned his complete attention over to me.
"Is something wrong, Ariel?" He asked, managing to give me a weak smile.
I gave a weak nod. "Y-yeah, something is wrong. You know how our parents said that we had arranged marriages? How.. did you first react when Mom and Dad told you about it?"
Davis gave a laugh. I was taken aback by it, but decided to listen to what he had to say anyways. "Believe it or not, I had no idea that Hazel and I were supposed to be married in the future. I had no idea whatsoever that I actually had an arranged marriage in the first place.. I suppose that I was pretty lucky. My parents seemed to know exactly whom I would end up marrying in the future, and they chose the girl that.." The boy bit his lip. I knew that he wanted to end the discussion right there, so I didn't say anything.
"Sooo.. they'll tell me when it's time?"
Davis seemed to sense the worry in my voice. "You shouldn't worry about it. Just go for the boy you like, and I'm sure that he'll end up being the guy that Mom and Dad picked out for you." He replied, though he crossed his arms mid-sentence. "....But I'll have to see if he's worthy enough for my little sister." He added as an afterthought, glancing over at the books.
I could only nod. "....Is Max worthy?" I muttered to myself, looking down at the floor as I spoke. I knew that Max was one of Davis's best friends (Skylar was the other one), but... because I had a crush on him, would Davis end their relationship?
"...Eh, you like Maxie?"
My face became a deep shade of red. "Davis!!" I hissed. "Don't say that aloud, you idiot!" I replied angrily, sending him a glare before promptly returning to work. The librarian had probably noticed.. and we could be kicked out if I didn't keep my cool...
Take deep breathes, Ariel... you'll be fine... you'll be alright...
-----------------
I couldn't help but notice the odd expression on Hazel's face as I placed the last book on our floor in its rightful position.
"Haze?" I spoke curiously, glancing over at her eyes to see them drenched in laughter.
She giggled. "I suppose you couldn't hear Davis's and Ariel's conversation, right?" She managed to say, though she was still giggling afterwards. How she managed this task, I would never know..
But the mere mention of Ariel's name sent my heart racing. Davis didn't know it, but I had a crush on the young red-haired girl. But wasn't it some unwritten rule to not have a crush on your best friend's little sister? I was breaking that one, that's for sure..
"...N-no, I didn't. Why do you ask?" I whispered back, glancing over at the librarian as I spoke. Why hadn't she kicked us out yet? Sure, she was young. But still..
"Wellllll... Ariel said something about you that you need to find out on your own..." As Hazel walked over to the staircase, I couldn't help but feel a little confused. What did Ariel say that I would have to find out on my own? It just didn't make sense..
I followed her up the staircase, ignoring the sounds that the stairs made as I stepped on them. How old were these stairs anyways? They seemed to be old enough that every single one of them creaked, at the very least..
"...Max?"
I blinked. Why.. was Ariel standing there in front of me? I looked over at Hazel, only to realize something.
She wasn't there...
------------------
Well, both Davis and Hazel had left. I was sort of grateful for their disappearance, though Max seemed to be a little lost on what was going on. I didn't blame him either...
"Hey, Max... W-would you l-like to have some coffee with me?" I managed to speak, though it was obvious that I was nervous. My face was a deep shade of red, and I could hear my foot tapping on the ground.
Max's face was also red. He rubbed the back of his neck, but didn't say anything for a long while.
The only sounds that could be heard were the sounds of the librarian working at her desk, and the scratchy sounds her pen made as she wrote on paper.
"...Y-yeah, that would be nice. But.. do you think that they would have tea there too? I'm not too fond of coffee.."
My face melted into a grin. So he did want to go with me!
"Yeah, of course they'd have tea!" I replied cheerfully, taking his hand. I began to walk, dragging the poor boy behind me. But within a few seconds, he had caught up with me and held my hand tightly as well.
"That'll be good, then.."
As we left, I could hear laughter. I only shook my head at them. They had experience this once before, hadn't they? Well, it was now our turn to experience it... laugh all you want, Davis and Hazel... laugh all you want..
