[Kingdom Hearts - Kingdom Chronicles] The Chase

So when my power went out this morning, I discovered some old fanfics that I'd never finished. This happened to be one of them. ♥ Might as well finish what I started, right?

Title: The Chase
Fandom: Kingdom Hearts
Universe: Kingdom Chronicle
Summary: Someone's chasing Ari and Rhys. Unfortunately for Ari, it doesn't seem like she's going to make it out alive...
Disclaimer: Ari, Rhys, and Aspen belong to me. Temperance belongs to [livejournal.com profile] theskiesabove. Damian (Wayne) belongs to DC Comics; Cid belongs to Squeenix. I'm just borrowing everyone for a quick fanfic, okay?

Someone was chasing them. Ari and Rhys didn't dare to look over their shoulders as they wove through the crowd in Radiant Garden. They could already feel the breath of their pursuer! Their hot, sticky breath---

--- "Slow down!" An angry Aspen groaned as he nearly collided into Ari ---

-- "Tch," Damian muttered as he leaned backwards to avoid incoming teenagers ---

--- "Don't you children know manners anymore?" (Sorry, Grandpa Cid!) ---

---was getting even closer and closer than before. Rhys panted, "Save yourself! I think it's going to get me first!"

Not looking back, Ari pushed her friend forward, "Don't be stupid!" She protested in-between breaths. "You are going to survive! Okay?"

Rhys wanted to protest, to say that Ari should save herself first (because isn't that the logical thing? To save the youngsters so that they could better the future? Nevermind that Rhys was only three years older), but before he could? Their predator got even closer.

God! Was this the end? It couldn't be!

Ari and Rhys fell to their knees. Whimpering, Ari buried her head in her arms. "Please, don't make us do this! I beg of you!" Rhys could only silently nod in agreement. (They were going to be punished, and even he knew it. God help them... if he existed. Please, God, save them from this cruel and unusual fate!)

"Ari," The voice sighed, waving an unusually large piece of garlic bread before their faces. "You know we need test-tasters for the annual Garlic and Onion Festival next week. Now, come on. You're just being a baby."

Rhys swallowed, "G-garlic and onion festival? Temperance! Th-that's cruel and unusual...."

It was too late: Temperance had already dragged Ari - by the collar, even! - back to 7th Heaven. Barely getting up on his own two feet, Rhys mournfully stared at his now-doomed friend. "Jeez," He groaned, walking back towards the Inn. "It was certainly nice knowing her."
