[Tokyo Mew Mew - Kokoro] Sutori's Constant

Oh jeez, when was the last time I wrote Kokoro fic? XD I know that the game's over, but for some reason, I couldn't help revisiting the muses and well... a couple of plotbunnies came back to haunt me. (No doubt because I reuse the characters in other fics!) So now, I've got a few fics involving the Star Six as they continue to go through life. Please bare with me for a little bit, since I know I'm invoking some painful muses, but in a way... I guess rebridging Old Shame is theraputic.

(And since it's Kokoro fic, I've crossposted it to [livejournal.com profile] kokoromew too.)

Title: Sutori's Constant
Fandom: Kokoro Mew [A Tokyo Mew Mew roleplaying game that deserves its own universe tag]
Relationship: Daisuke Hoshizen + Shikari Shinga [friendship]
Summary: Even though Daisuke's in college now... and Shikari's a junior in high school? Some things never change. Ever.
Claimer: While I don't own Tokyo Mew Mew, I own Daisuke and Shikari! As well as all the characters in this fic and their situation, so um. Please don't take?

What could have possessed him to open that old, dusty book without thinking? Daisuke wasn't sure, but the moment his hands touched the weak spine, he immediately regretted it. He could feel the shock in his fingers and hear the cackle of spirits nearby.

Perhaps it was because he was in Sutori again - and not some place this book ought to be - but he hadn't felt afraid of this book at first. He was a Data Mage! Surely he could conquer the beast that was this old book.

He pressed his lips together as he peered from his corner booth. He couldn't recognize any of the other faces. Everyone was so new, so foreign that they might as well have been American or Chinese. Good. That meant that no one could really blame him for the sudden influx of negativity or spirits.

(How could they blame someone they didn't know? It was nigh-impossible, especially in a small cafe like Sutori.)

Now hunching over the book, Daisuke inhaled deeply and put his hands on the edges of the front cover. Nothing - and no one - was stopping him. He could finally open this thing and see what all the fuss was about.

So he did. It was as anticlimactic as he expected: the sound of electricity fizzled as words magically appeared on the page. Daisuke's eyes twinkled as he slowly began to read the first few words.

"Diary of Shikari Shinga. Please don't---"

His eyes widened. Slamming the cover back, he immediately turned his eyes to heaven. To murmur prayers was a complete waste of time: he knew his punishment would come any minute now.

Ten... nine... eight...

"HOSHIZEN DAISUKE! WHAT THE HECK DID---"

Poor Daisuke didn't even get a chance to defend himself. Before he was even aware of it, a flaming spiral flew into his booth. Then? Screams as he - and some red, burning blur - traded multiple blows right there in the middle of the shop. The young bartender watched lazily for a few minutes while bemused customers exchanged worried glances.

Overhearing the customers' concerns, the bartender grinned and revealed his unnaturally pointy canines, "Oh, don't worry about those two. It happens at least once a week."

"Ariiiiiii," Daisuke wailed as he dodged yet another fireball. "I didn't mean to! My professor gave me some old book for a lecture next week!"

"Don't give me that sorry excuse! You go to Tokyo U now! It's a norm college! There is no excuse!"

Flailing even more, Daisuke fell backwards and out the back door of the restaurant. The eyes of the restaurant followed them out as more screams and wails followed. A few minutes.... now, complete and utter silence.

The customers blinked, then resumed eating their meals. Unfortunately for the poor bartender, he was left facing a half-charred dining room. He cursed under his breath as he flew from behind the bar and inspected the burnt tables and chairs.

"Those two," He groaned as he picked up two chairs. "I guess some things never do change."
