[Original] A New Life
Okay, so you guys haven't met this family before. XD I'm a little surprised, but not really - I tend to recycle my characters a lot, but these are all brand-new people. Adrian, Kyra (who isn't in this story at all), and Damian are a family of three half-Greek siblings. Adrian ends up marrying Samira Rahman (a Bangladeshi woman who lives in Boston) - and he moves with her to Boston. That's really all you need to get this story, since it is a re-cap of their lives. o/
Title: A New Life
Fandom: Original
Relationship: Adrian/Samira; Adrian + Damian
Summary: Damian's watching his older brother change before his eyes, and oddly enough? He likes it... and dislikes it.
Claimer: Allll mine. D: Okay?
They were married now. Damian couldn't believe that his older brother - his rock - was no longer in Gotham with him. Adrian hadn't lived at home with them in ages, yes, but there was always a part of him that stayed behind.
And as Damian watched his older brother recite prayers in Arabic, he knew: his older brother had said good-bye to his reckless behavior. No more swordfighting in the middle of the night; no more stealing mana in order to survive. No more teasing Helena by breathing in her ear; no more, no more, no more.
Funnily enough... Adrian didn't seem to mind. The way he looked into Samira's eyes - as if she was the only one around - said it all to Damian. If his older brother was happy living the simple life, then Damian would just have to make do.
Adrian loved life now, he said. There was just something mystical about reading the pages of the Qur'an, the way the words in Arabic seemed to resonate deep within his heart. He hadn't hesitated to convert when he was in college, and it seemed... he was still deeply in love with the language, the culture, the people.
Perhaps that was half the reason he agreed to have an Indian-style wedding with Samira, when Damian knew his mother'd been hoping for a traditional Western one. But Adrian wouldn't have it.
"Samira's been wanting this all her life," Adrian had retorted to his mother. "There's no way I'm letting her dreams go down the drain!"
Damian had thought his brother was incredibly stupid for going along with everything; for arranging to wear that ridiculous turban and go with the Islamic ways. But when he had seen the looks of joy on Adrian and Samira's faces? All of Damian's worries melted away.
His brother was perfectly happy with his new life.
All Damian could do was smile, nod, and support him.
The prayers ended, and Adrian returned to his younger brother's side. "What're you thinking about, kiddo?"
Damian laughed as he looked up, "Nothing much."
"Kay," Adrian stuck his tongue out as he brushed his long, black hair out. "Then let's go to dinner. Sam's made some pretty good stuff."
"Sure," Damian found himself laughing as he was led one last time by his strong, unwavering rock to the dinner table. He took his seat and let himself fall into the rituals of his new family. And funnily enough? He was enjoying every single moment.
