[ToL - Team Valens] Efforts
I'm not sure where this came from again, other than I was really bored. ^^; It doesn't require any knowledge of ToL to read, by the way, as it's only a grandmother trying to reach out to her new grandson.

Summary: Let's try to teach Senel some English, shall we?
Disclaimer: Not mine. Dx You knew that by now, right?
It had been a week since the child had been brought to her home. Musette wasn't sure exactly how to raise a child that didn't speak any English whatsoever. Yes, there was an interpreter that had been staying with them for the past three weeks, but his time would soon end here.
Not only that, but the child didn't seem to like the interpreter very much. He'd always frown at the poor man, crying out, "Kothin rhiday!" The man would always smile back, but Musette had the sinking feeling that the child was insulting her employee to no end.
"Senel?"
The child frowned, turning to face Musette as he clutched a stuffed teddy bear. "Ki?"
Ki... that was the word for 'what', was it not? Musette calmly smiled and said, "Senel, I think it's time I finally took you shopping."
Senel tilted his head to the side. "Ami anglish bolte pari na, Nani."
Musette looked over to the interpreter. "What is he saying, Jivin?"
Jivin replied nonchalantly, "He says he doesn't understand English, grandmother. I think you're going to have to start really slowly. Rafi and Sayra didn't teach him any English."
"I see," Musette slowly replied. "I doubt they would have ever guessed they would pass away here."
Jivin shrugged. "I'm not sure what they thought. But starting slow's definitely a good idea. I don't think you need to go shopping with him just yet."
With that, he headed towards the door. "If you need me, just give me a ring. I have a feeling I'll be here for a good, long while."
Musette and Senel both watched him walk off. Yet, Senel clung even more tightly to his teddy bear once Jivin left for the evening. He always did; Musette knew he was terrified to be here in a strange house where no one spoke his language.
"Senel?"
He looked up, staring back at her. "Gee, Nani?"
"Dear, do you want some milk?"
Senel just stared at her, wide-eyed. "Ki?"
Musette smiled softly to herself as she took Senel by the hand and led him into the kitchen. She could hear him continue to speak in this other language of his (it had been so cute when Sayra had spoken in it to her. Shame she had passed away at such a young age), but ignored it temporarily to hand him a glass of milk.
"Milk?" She questioned, offering it to him.
He blinked. "Doodh?"
"Yes. Milk."
Setting his teddy bear aside, Senel hesitantly took the glass of milk. "Mee-ilk."
Musette couldn't help smiling as she watched him eagerly gulp down the drink. "Yes, dear. Milk."
He looked at her, timidly handing her the glass back. "Um... Nani? Aamake mee-ilk din?"
"Of course," She replied, still smiling as she poured another glass of milk into his cup. Mm. He was making an effort. It was better than nothing, right? Perhaps one day, he'd be completely fluent in English and they would really be able to communicate as family.
It was a long way off, but it was an effort to strive for, right? Senel finally tugged on her dress, handing her the finished glass of milk.
"Oh? Did you want more, Senel?"
He shook his head, clutching his teddy bear again. In that instant, Musette lifted him and set him on the counter as she wiped a milk mustache off. Senel laughed (she supposed he was rather ticklish for a six year old) before hiding again into his teddy bear.
But all in all, this evening had gone well. He would become a member of his household without any problems.
"Senel?"
He blinked, looking up at her. Musette smiled, extending her hand. "Let's go to bed, all right?"
Nodding happily, he took her hand and followed her into this strange place that he might be able to call home.
