[TMM - Kokoro] An Adventurer

Backstory for Fuyuki. I didn't intend for this to end up as it did, but the kid makes me think and... well, I liked getting into his head and figuring out what makes him tick.

Title: An Adventurer
Fandom: Original [from the roleplaying game Kokoro]
Summary: Fuyuki and Jishou talk about parents.
Disclaimer: While Fuyuki, the details of the Shirogane family, and Jishou details (not including his name, which was made up by [livejournal.com profile] sugarvoice) are mine, Jishou himself isn't.

That Ryou punk was lucky to have a father. Fuyuki had always wondered what it'd be like to really have a father - one that you could share your secrets with, play catch with, or do anything you wanted to. What had happened to his?

Fuu wasn't really sure. His father was "legally dead" in the eyes of the law. Supposedly, he'd gone off looking for a magical artifact when Fuu was a kid, and... well, he never came back. His mother still hadn't thought about re-marrying, let alone enter the dating scene again. Why? His dad was legally dead.

Sure, he went off in search of magical artifacts and came back hundreds of times. That was the kind of person his dad was supposed to have been. An adventurer, his mother called him fondly. With only his magic and tools to guide him, he'd retrieve ancient items to share with the world. The dungeons could never claim him.

Not until that day, Fuu cynically thought to himself as he stared at the window.

"Fuuster? What's the matter?"

Not bothering to look over at the speaker, Fuu pressed his hand against the glass pane. "Mm, nothing, really. I was just thinking... how could people take parents for granted?"

The newcomer came over and hugged him. "Fuu, they haven't realized it. People never really cherish what they have until it's gone. I know he'll come back some day."

"You swear the dungeon didn't claim him, Uncle Shou?"

He nodded. "Cross my heart and hope to die. He's only been gone for five years. I know that he's trying his best out there to return home."

"Mmm, maybe," Fuu softly replied. "I wonder if he misses me."

"I bet he does. Chin up, okay?"

The kid attempted a smile, looking up at his uncle. "Okay. I'll... try. I hope the punk realizes how lucky he is to have you."

"It's okay if he never does," Jishou replied just as softly. "I still love him anyways." Letting Fuyuki go, he turned to leave. "Let's go. Your food's getting cold."

Fuu nodded, taking one last, long look through the window. "Okay. ... Come home soon, Dad," He muttered as he turned to leave, shutting the door behind him.
