skittlestemple's OC. But Akemi, Riley Skellington (mention only), Aspen Strife (mention only) and Kiro are mine, okay?
It was a normal day at home. Kiro was busy cooking dinner (he didn't dare let his mother help after last year's "kitchen explosion". It wasn't that Namine was horrible at cooking. Oh, no. It was more like... Namine and Kiro together didn't mix at the moment), Akemi was organizing her checklists, and their parents were watching TV in the living room.
Every so often, his father would mute the volume ("Geez, does anything on TV at this hour not have coarse language?"). His mother would come sit down to his sister, telling her how to organize her tasks on the checklists in a timely matter.
All in all, things were peaceful and sane. This was how the household was normally kept, and they all enjoyed it.
Until the doorbell rang, that is. Riku groaned, rising from his chair to open the door.
"Kiro," He called as he took the package. "There's a package for you!"
The white-haired teen blinked. "For me? But I've already gotten my present from Uncle Roxas and Aunt Olette."
With his attention still to the door, Riku closed it behind the mail delivery person. "I know. But this seems to be from a different world all together."
Akemi looked up from her notebook. Brushing back her platinum blonde bangs, she shrugged. "I guess it's from one of your otherworldly friends, Kir. Maybe it could be that Melody kid? Riley? Or even Aspen?"
"It doesn't look like it came from Atlantica," Riku commented, setting the box down on the table. "Their packages are usually bulky... and wet."
Kiro decided that he wasn't going to ask his father how he knew that.
"Then... Riley as in Riley Skellington is from Halloween Town. This package doesn't look so creepy and.. well, Halloween-ish as it would."
Akemi nodded in agreement. "Yeah. It's just your average big, brown package."
"Let me see, then," Kiro hurriedly turned the stove off. He then rushed to the table; his hands steadily tore the package apart. "It looks like..."
He pulled out a long chain. "A.. chain link? No, it-it's heavier..."
Akemi and Riku stared at the teen. "It's.. a chandelier..."
"N-No way!"
"I'm afraid it's true," Namine sighed, letting her hands rest on her cheeks. "Who'd give you a chandelier?"
A small, pink card lay at the bottom of the shredded mess. Setting the bulky present (if it could even be called that) aside, he slowly opened the card.
'Dear Kiro-san,' It read in child-like handwriting that Kiro could barely read. Was English even her native tongue?
He sighed, contining on. 'I hope you really like myprs presnt gift! I looked very, very, very, very hard for it! Shirogane-senpai said that it was weird and I not should hand it, but, but! I did! You like? Love, KOCHA~~~~'
The boy stopped, staring at the card again. "She wouldn't."
Everyone else blinked. "She wouldn't what?"
Kiro sighed, looking from the chandelier to the messy card. "Well, there is an upside to getting a chandelier."
"And what would that be," Riku asked curiously, staring with slight disgust at the gift.
"It beat the boss's present. He got a washing machine." With that, he shrugged and walked back to the kitchen.
Riku blinked, exchanging glances with his wife.
"The... boss..?"
"Got... a washing machine..?"
They both turned to Akemi, who merely shrugged. "I wouldn't know," She admitted. "Kir tends to keep odd company."
"That he does," Riku sighed.
Namine eyed the chandelier with interest. "Say, Riku?"
"What is it?"
"... It looks nice. The chandelier, I mean. You wanna hang it up above the breakfast table?"
THUD.
Namine blinked, looking at her fallen husband and daughter. She sighed, returning her attention to her drawings.
"Seems no one has good taste anymore, do they?" She smiled. "Well.. at least Kir's friend does. That's a good thing."
