So they were back in Lindblum. Zidane didn't mind too much, seeing as Lindblum was the city he had practically grown up in. As the teen looked over at his companion, he flashed a grin at her.
"So, Dagger," He found himself saying. "Is there anything interesting here?"
She merely shrugged. "Not that I can tell," She admitted. "But since we're taking Vivi and Eiko shopping, we may as well see what's up for sale, right?"
Oh, right. Zidane had nearly forgotten that little fact.
He had asked the other members of his crew if they wanted to grab some last minute shopping in the town. Quina had declined, choosing to go gorge himself/herself at the local eateries instead.
Steiner normally would have gone with them, seeing as he was a big Vivi fan, but he had also oddly declined, stating that he had business with Beatrix.
And as for Freya and Amarant? Heavens knows where they were off to.
So, it was just the four of them - Zidane, Dagger, Eiko, and Vivi.
The two children were running in front of their teenage chaperons, oohing and ahhhing at every store they went to. Zidane laughed as he took Dagger by the hand, running to catch up with them.
Compared to the earlier experiences, this seemed like a walk in the park. Everything felt so peaceful for once, even as the city was being rebuilt.
"Zidane? Where are we going?"
Zidane blinked, glancing over his shoulder at the confused white mage. "To be honest, I dunno," He admitted cheerfully. "But Vivi and Eiko will be all over the place if we don't look out for them, right?"
"Right," Dagger admitted. "So, this means we go shopping with them?"
"Of course!" The boy cried, grinning.
He found himself, however, victim to Eiko's newest decision. As the four walked into a bakery, Zidane couldn't help noticing the beautiful wedding cakes being decorated.
Kneeling down beside Vivi as they stopped, the boy asked his friend, "Don't they look yummy?"
Vivi nodded, smiling. "Yeah, definitely. I don't know why Eiko stopped here, though.."
As if on cue, Eiko turned to face the two boys. "I wanted to buy a cake to cheer everyone up," The girl happily proclaimed. "Is that a problem?"
They shook their heads, laughing.
The clerk greeted Eiko with a smile and a bow, then walked over to Zidane and Dagger.
"Would you two be here to buy your wedding cake...?" She asked, looking from one to the other.
Zidane looked a bit confused. "We did get married a while back, but that wasn't anything official.. and.. well.."
"No, we didn't," Dagger cut him off by giving him a look. "You must be mistaking us for another couple."
The clerk nodded. "I see.. I'm sorry to have bothered you."
As Eiko resumed talking to the clerk about buying a cake for tonight, Zidane rose from his position.
He sighed, scratching his cheek. "Why does everyone think we're married or about to be..?"
Vivi tilted his head to the side. "It's not that hard... you're a boy, Dagger's a girl, and Eiko and I are kids...."
"Vivi!" Zidane blinked, though it was obvious he was amused. "You know, for someone so shy, you've got the most obvious answers..."
The black mage's face grew slightly red as he looked down at the ground.
"I'm done~" Eiko cried, holding a white box in her hands.
Dagger simply smiled as she looked over at Zidane, who by this time, was merrily talking to Eiko and Vivi as if they were his own children.
And in a way, she mused, they kind of were. "You know, Zidane," She began as they walked up, running a little to keep walking at his side.
He turned to face her. "Yeah?"
She lightly kissed him on the cheek. "You wouldn't make a bad husband."
Needless to say, the rest of their walk home was rather silent. But.. it wasn't in that bad way. After all, she had gotten the rather flirtatious and upbeat Zidane to blush like any other boy. And that in itself was a feat all its own.
