[TMM - Kokoro] Dawnbreak

So, this is the oyako ficlet I promised. I hope you enjoy it, Lin. <3

Title: Dawnbreak
Fandom: Tokyo Mew Mew - Kokoro
Summary: Oyako (Jishou+Ryou). "Isn't the dawn a beautiful sight, Ryou-kun?"
Disclaimer: Only thing that's mine is the story and Shou details. Otherwise, I got nothing. o.o

For some insane reason, he was here. In the car. And they were driving back to New York at 6 AM.

Ryou groaned inwardly. Part of him was worried for his father as he silently watched him driving. How could he last this long?

After all, what kind of person decided to drive for seven hours straight without stopping? He knew that his father had only taken the wheel for three hours, after his mother had gotten too sleepy to drive.

He no longer winced at the loud Japanese tunes. After listening to them for at least five hours, it was a pretty normal ordeal.

"Papa?"

He knew well that his father couldn't listen to him with the music up, yet..

"Yes, Ryou-kun?" Jishou glanced back at his son, smiling slightly despite the obvious signs of sleepiness - the deep bags under his eyes, the way his hands were shaking..

Ryou managed to return the smile, but just barely. His eyes were more concerned with making sure that his father would stay awake. "...Let me take over," He finally said. "You look tired."

"You sure?"

How did he know that his father would say that? The blond was sure that his father was extremely worn out from the day before in Raleigh. Smiling sadly, Ryou nodded. "I'm definitely sure. You look really worn out, Papa."

They stopped at a nearby gas station. Jishou got out of the car, refilling it with gas. Ryou climbed into the driver's seat shortly afterwards, and the car continued on its journey to New York City, otherwise known as the American home of the Shirogane family.

It was odd to see his father sprawled out in the back of the car like that. Ryou smiled with amusement at the scene, then returning his gaze to the empty roads ahead.

"...You know, Ryou-kun, it's pretty to see dawn breaking," Jishou sleepily said, taking his glasses off with one hand. "I don't know if we'll see the sun today or not, though.."

His son didn't have the heart to tell him that he had seen dawn break many times.

"...Y-yeah," Ryou finally said, taking a sip of tea. "I bet it'll be beautiful nevertheless.."

"You're lying again," Jishou's voice was somewhat amused. "But I do appreciate the gesture to keep me in high spirits."

A genuine smile found its way on the blond's face. "...I'm sorry. Try harder next time, right?"

"...Am I that predictable?"

Jishou's only reply was laughter.

As the father fell into a deep sleep, Ryou kept moving on: even if he did know time magic, he wasn't strong enough to bring the entire car with the three passengers. (Besides, he didn't want to break his father's heart. After all, road trips seemed to be something that his father was highly fond of)

The more he kept driving, the more he found himself staring at the brightening sky. True, there wasn't much rising sunlight... but nevertheless, it was somewhat magical in its own.

"...Papa was right," Ryou mused to himself. "The dawn breaking is beautiful."
