[K + AMM] Festival Night
If you don't want to see a seriously OOC Ryou, you might wanna skip this one. ^^; In other words, this Ryou is America Mew Mew's Ryou. I hope you like it, Lin, even though it's not quite what you expected..

Shuugo had always loved watching the fireworks from the safety of our home. This year, however, he seemed to be a little reluctant when Auntie Kirei had offered to take him to the fireworks in Tokyo. (Of course, this was the relative from the 'Kokoro' dimension)
I couldn't really blame him; the fox gijinka was sensitive when it came to light, especially when it was up close and personal.
The Japanese people seemed to host a variety of festivals for no reason, from my eyes. Sure, they had special occasions like we did to celebrate, but some of them seemed really rushed, kind of like "we want a festival, so we'll make up a holiday to go along with it!".
My father had even agreed to that; thus, I knew that Japanese festivals were held a little too often for the nation's own good.
"Ryler! You know we can't leave with you..." I looked over at my best friend, a smile on my face.
Summoning my staff, I rose from my seat on the railing. "I know. What's the hurry, Rovin? It's just a Japanese festival."
He tugged on his translation wristwatch (Rovin could never grasp the Japanese language, even with the lessons from both Noru and me). "Yeah, but you've seen your brother lately..."
I didn't bother answering to that.
See, Shuu had been spending some time in Kokoro. Normally, I wouldn't have minded too much. He was with my counterpart, and my counterparts were normally people that could be trusted.
Lately, however, my little brother's expressions were easily taken as signs of reluctance, unwillingness to go back. He said that he had to, though. The counterpart would question why if he didn't.
Even I wasn't an expert at reading body language and emotions like Shuu, but couldn't my counterpart at least see that he was an emotional roller coaster (and a bad influence, though that's pretty biased) on his life?
...Probably not.
Rovin had suggested that we spy on my little brother for that reason - I could pose as Kyr (he's my kid from the future; I don't know about you, but I think I could learn to love future kids, if Kotora (Kyr) and Rovin's kid Eli are prime examples) if we got into a nasty situation.
I gripped my staff in the middle, pressing it into the ground. "Galaxy Transport," I whispered.
My conscience (I didn't even know I had one...) decided to kick in then, telling me that my choice might not be such a good idea. Ignoring it, I gritted my teeth.
I wanted to see Shuu smile when he was with my counterpart; I think I was already beginning to hate him.
Little brothers are sensitive people - you can't really joke around with them in serious tones about bad ideas; they'll think that you really mean what you said.
From the rumors that I had heard about this counterpart of mine, I was beginning to think that maybe Shuugo shouldn't hang out around him anymore.
As the two of us landed in a festival garden in Tokyo, I made my staff disappear. We glanced around the area, looking for a place that we could stand.
That was until we could catch a glimpse of my brother with that counterpart.
"...Niichan?" Shuugo had asked, his hand latching onto the other blond's.
It was really awkward; I had wanted to pop out and ask him why he was embarrassed at hearing his name being called out, but.. I wasn't supposed to be here.
"Yeah?" The-Other-Ryou replied, glancing over at the fox gijinka. (That's when it hit me that this counterpart was a little taller than I was; maybe by a couple of inches, but he was still pretty tall)
Shuugo grinned. "You know, you'd think that you would be used to hearing your name..."
...Well, at least my brother was showing my genes. You had to be proud at that, nyao.
He sweatdropped. "Did you want to ask something, Shuu?"
My little brother shook his head no. "I just wanted to tell you that I had a really good time tonight and---" He paused, catching sight of the two of us.
I busied myself by paying for two drinks for Rovin and myself. From the back at least, I looked almost identical to Kotora (or at least, I thought I did).
I wasn't expecting my little brother to hug me. "Hey."
Rovin took his drink, laughing. The nature mage glanced over at the-other-Ryou, smiling. "Had a good time tonight, Ryler?"
The-Other-Ryou seemed to think that this was the Rovin from his dimension, judging by the confused expression on his face. "Weren't you supposed to be out with Sarah...?"
Rovin shrugged. "I think it was a rain check..."
Shuugo let go of me, turning back to his elder brother from another dimension. "Hey, niichan?" He asked. "I think we were supposed to meet kaasan and tousan, so we'll let them be."
As the-other-Ryou turned to leave, Shuugo glanced over at me. "Thanks for looking out for me, niisan," He whispered, squeezing my hand. "But I think I'll be fine, yerf. He's getting better at this whole older brother business..."
I laughed, nodding. "Certainly seems that way. Have fun, Shuu."
He gave me the victory sign as he ran up to where his other elder brother was.
I turned to Rovin. "So, you want to see the rest of this festival?"
He shrugged. "Sure, I don't see why not. What are we seeing first?"
I pressed a finger to my lips, grinning. "That's a secret!"
It may have been a while since we were truly kids, but I think both of us felt like one tonight as we explored the festival. The main thing I wanted to know was true: My younger brother was okay, even if it took a lot of effort on my counterpart's part.
