[Kingdom Hearts] Wish

I felt like a Soairi Fic? x3; I hope the Sora/Kairi (Soairi) fans out there like it, ne.

Title: Wish
Fandom: Kingdom Hearts - takes place before CoM (or maybe after?)
Pairing: Sora/Kairi (Soairi)
Summary: Today is Kairi's birthday, but a certain keyblade bearer forgets all about it...
Disclaimer: I don't own Kingdom Hearts. e-e;;

[Note: This indicates a flashback; This indicates thoughts]

We were just walking back from Merlin's place. I can still remember Donald and Goofy arguing over who was the better refree for our game that night (it usually ended with Donald calling Goofy a "big palooka"), while I was simply shaking my head at them. It was a peaceful night for once. The heartless seemed to want to take a break today, so they left us alone.

However, I paused as we reached the door that connected the First District of Traverse Town to the Third. I was sure that I had forgotten something. No, it wasn't something materialistic like a pen or even a spellbook. It was something.. something very, very important. I don't know what it was, though.

"Hey, Sora?"

I was jolted back to reality by my shorter companion. Even though he held an impatient expression on his face, his eyes seemed to be a little confused as he studied my face.

"Hm?" I managed to reply weakly, smiling a little to ease Donald's worries.

"Isn't today Kairi's birthday?"

My face became pale. Nervous laughter escaped my lips before I could press them together, and my eye twitched. "So it is..." I muttered under my breath. Even though I managed to give both Donald and Goofy a smile, my uneasiness rose...

"Sora!"

My face was red, and.. I was at Kairi's house (which was also the mayor's house since the mayor had adopted Kairi), from the looks of it. We were only eight then (well, Kairi had just turned eight), while Riku was a full year ahead of us, being only nine years of age.

In my hands was a wrapped present, and a childish smile was on my face. "Hey, Kairi." I had managed to reply. I extended my arms fully, stretching the present so that she would be able to grab it. I could hear Riku's laugh at our uneasiness, and his words in the background to Tidus and the others ("Sora and Kairi like each other!" - and to that, Tidus would reply, "But don't girls have cooties?"), which was followed by Selphie whacking some unlucky soul (I'm guessing it was Tidus) with her nunchakus.

But Kairi and I ignored the noises in the background. Her face had become a deep shade of red to match mine, and awkward silence followed. At long last, she took the present from me, and opened it. As she pulled the silver chain necklace out, her smile widened. The last things I remember of that night was her hug (which would have nearly killed me if Tidus and Riku didn't pry me out), and her words to me.

"I'm so glad you didn't forget my birthday, Sora!"

So glad you didn't forget...

Those words echoed over and over in my head. Donald and Goofy seemed to know very well that I was in another world, but they didn't say anything. I don't think that even if they tried to jolt me back to reality, their words would have any effect on me.

I could hear the voices of the townspeople as we walked through the First District. Their words didn't really jolt me back to reality either. Well, for the most part, they didn't..

"Hey, look! A shooting star!"

I was jolted back to reality once more with those words. Looking up to the sky, a small smile appeared at the corners of my lips. Kairi would have liked to see this more than anything else right now...

And I wished on that star. I know it's pathetic to wish on a shooting star, even if the wish doesn't come true, but it was fun all the same. And what *did* I wish for? Well, if I told you, it wouldn't come true now, would it?

But I bet you, that back on Destiny Island, that Kairi was indeed having a happy birthday.. even if I wasn't there to help her celebrate...
