[SCA] Her Choice
Title: Her Choice
Fandom: DC Comics + High School Musical crossover
Universe: Sharpay's Crossover Adventure
Relationships: Thomas Bronson / Sharpay Evans
Summary: Even though Sharpay's pregnant with his kid, the one goal Tom's always dreamed of, he has to make sure that Sharpay wants this too.
She's pregnant.
The news doesn't sink into Tom's ears until two hours later, when the burning red line's seared into his brain. She's pregnant. With his kid, and he's going to be a dad. They've prepared for the possibility: Shar's parents even helped him out with a trust fund, and Tom had taken extra hours at a law firm to help with additional bills. They'd even discussed their mismatched schedules, should the chance arise.
But they weren't actively trying. These were "what if conversations," the kind that made Tommy grin in-between babysitting sessions and late-night gaming marathons with the boys - not active, "we want children" type conversations.
Shar wasn't quite like him when children were concerned. She was no Mimi, who actively embraced motherhood with an iron fist, or Maxine, who read every single parenting book known to womankind (and then some, in languages she didn't even speak fluently). No, Shar was her own force of nature, who wanted to set herself straight before she would raise Sharpay Jr.
("I can't take care of a kid if I can't take care of me, Tommy," she'd always insist, every time he had held up Russell or Tori or one of their friends' kids in his arms. "One person at a time, okay?")
So that night, after she returns from a show, he greets her with a longer-than-usual kiss.
"Tommy?" She leans back, staring up at him with worried eyes. "You alright?"
"Better than alright." He hesitates, nearly tripping over his next words, "I was... I was thinking, if you're not ready for this..."
She glares at him, with a look that could've stopped a lesser man cold. "Thomas Aryeh Bronson, we're not giving up on this child before he's even born."
"I know we're not." He leans in, resting his forehead against hers as he allows himself to take in a breath. "But you promise, it's your choice?"
"Always and forever."
This time, she returns the longer-than-usual kiss, allowing him to inhale her flower-y scent (daisies? some sandalwood too) before she turns towards the door. "By the way? Did you mean what you said about the pregnancy cravings?"
"That I'd get you what you wanted?" He furrowed his brow. "Of course."
She snapped her fingers. "A dozen artisinal donuts, if you'd please. Half a dozen vanilla glaze, three strawberry sprinkle, and... hm, three black raspberry white chocolate. I'm eating for two now, remember?"
Tom groaned, even as he grabbed his leather jacket off its hook and headed towards the door. A lady's choice was always (and forever) her choice, but sometimes, he wished it hadn't been attached to such a hefty price tag.
