It Takes Two: Chapter Twenty-Five
Title: Chapter Twenty-Five: Anniversaries
Fandom: The Vampire Diaries
Universe: Canon (set mid-S2)
Relationship: Elena Gilbert/Stefan Salvatore
Summary: Stefan decides to commemorate his sixth month anniversary with Elena, despite his better judgment (and Damon) telling him otherwise.
Notes: Holy crap, I honestly didn't expect to continue this series! I guess I don't have much to say, other than my love for hero/heroine couples probably won't fade anytime soon.
After so many rounds of high school, I'd almost forgotten why I participated in the first place. Teenagers were fickle creatures with fickle tastes, without the inner maturity to hold my attention for long. As a whole, they just seemed so shallow. Maybe I was, as Elena so politely put it, "finally showing my true age."
If I were showing my true age, would I be standing out in the cold in front of her house? Would I be holding one of those dumb boomboxes, with one of those handpicked playlists I'd chosen just for her? Damon had groaned when I'd pulled out my mini-speakers.
"Are you seriously..." He bit his tongue. "On second thought, you know what? Go have fun embarrassing yourself."
Elena hadn't wanted to make a big fuss over our sixth-month anniversary. I couldn't blame her. Just before I arrived, she had broken up with Matt, and flaunting our love just seemed distasteful with him around. But Matt wasn't standing outside her house, and I wasn't tossing rocks at her window just so she'd open them.
"What do you want?" Jeremy's voice yelled.
On second thought, that might have not been Elena's window. I stepped back, staring up at him and waving as politely as possible, given the circumstances.
The front door then opened as Elena squeezed through and leaned against the door frame. I went ahead and pressed play, in time for our song to play. One of them, anyhow - Elena and I always argued over which bands and musicians were better.
"Are you trying to serenade me?" She asked softly, just as Jeremy had shaken his head and disappeared back to bed. "If so, that is awfully sweet of you."
I tilted my head to the side, mouthing something like 'Wouldn't you like to know.'
Without another word, she ran for me and jumped straight into my arms, nearly knocking the mini-speakers onto the ground. The scent of her hair, the tight hug... it all took my breath away.
"Thank you," she whispered into my ear. "What's the occasion?"
"Sixth month anniversary," I retorted softly, turning the music down in case Jeremy or Jenna wanted to play noise police.
Her beautiful brown eyes softened. She leaned in, inching closer and closer to me and--and I got impatient. I pressed my lips against her and embraced the moment. Damon had thought anniversaries were stupid, but honestly, I think he was just jealous.
She reluctantly let go.
I looked straight into her eyes, and in my most elegant manner possible, pulled her back towards the house. "Miss Gilbert, may I stay the night?"
She blinked, staring down at the threshold before she looked back at me and noticed the single rose in my arm (which had been hidden by the darkness of the night sky). Without a moment's hesitation, she pulled me in closer. "Why, Mr. Salvatore, I thought you'd never ask."
