Title: Black Roses
Summary: ElizabethxJishou; early birthday present for [livejournal.com profile] cherryfox. When Jishou decides to prank the Beaumont Flower Shoppe by dying all the roses black, how does Elizabeth react?
Note: If you're not a Kokoro fan, then don't read this one-shot. It's as simple as that.

"We'll strike at 7, when Beaumont's off her shift."

Three teenagers were sitting around a table as they ate lunch, though it seemed like they were doing much more than that. The youngest, a blond boy with blue eyes, seemed to be a little reluctant about the current conversation.

"Are you sure that this'll be alright, Jishou?" His voice held concern, but the older boy caught onto what his friend was saying.

"Maxie.. tomorrow is April 1st, after all. It's April Fools Day, the one day of the year where we can play pranks on people - and the people will agree to help us out. You Americans are so lucky to have holidays like this.."

Max gave a sweatdrop. "Hey, Brett - can't you convince him *not* to do this?" He asked, looking over at the other boy as he spoke.

The brown-haired boy gave a sweatdrop. "Oh, come on. You know how Shou is. Once he's got his mind set on a prank, he won't stop for any reason. Minus the time where he got grounded by your parents, but that's about it."

Jishou sweatdropped. "Is the whole world against me or what?" He asked jokingly, flashing his usual sly grin towards his friends.

"...You're something, Shou. So, we strike at 7?" Brett asked, ruffling his own hair with his free hand as he spoke. A faint smile played upon his lips, but soon disappeared once he saw Jishou give him the all-too-familiar nod.

"Exactly at seven. Operation Black Roses will commence tonight, that's for sure. And for once, she's not going to see what'll hit her.." Even though Jishou's voice held confidence, the redhead was anything but. That was because.. well, he was actually beginning to have feelings for the fifteen-year old girl.

The way she walked.. the way she spoke with her friends... every single mannerism about her was simply wonderful. But she never seemed to notice him. Every time he tried, it usually ended up in failure. He didn't know why, but it did. Was that normal? Did she actually love him like he loved her?

Jishou didn't know... but he wanted to. Was pulling this prank really worth it? Yes - it was worth it, he finally decided. If she hated him, then she may as well admit it when she next saw him. He didn't want his life to be bad just because the girl he loved didn't love him back..

"....Hey, Liz."

Why was he here? Elizabeth blinked. Jishou Shirogane was in front of her, but why? He was an older boy - a junior in high school, to be exact. Most juniors didn't like freshmen. Sure, they glanced over at them and commented that some of the girls were cute - but really, that was it.

"Liz?"

A weak smile played upon Elizabeth's lips. Was he actually noticing her as somebody else besides the girl who worked at the flowershop he visited at least once a week? His footsteps grew near, and stopped right when the boy was in front of her.

He lowered his head to meet hers, and his lips... he was.. kissing her?

"ELIZABETH! Are you still daydreaming again?"

Oh, so that was just a dream. Elizabeth blinked, before looking up from the counter. A black-haired girl with red streaks in her bangs stood next to her, and she seemed to be a little ticked off.

"...I'm really sorry, Koto. Is there anything I can do to make up for that?" Liz smiled sheepishly. So much for vowing not to daydream while she was at work. But she couldn't help but wonder.. why was she daydreaming about Jishou on a day like this? She surely didn't love him - so why was her daydream showing that?

"...Take a look for yourself." Koto held out a single black rose.

Elizabeth's eyes widened. Was this normal? Last time she checked, black roses only appeared when the flowers were wilting and were about to die. But this rose was clearly alive and looked to be healthy. "A... black rose?"

Koto gave a nod. "A black rose. All the roses are black now.." She commented, looking towards the window as she spoke. The black-haired girl's voice slightly wavered as she spoke, causing Elizabeth to realize something.

Today was April 1st, wasn't it?

...He must've done it. But why? Jishou knew how much she loved flowers. Especially red roses. And they were all black now.. the color of sorrow. "...Where is Jishou?"

Liz must have been seeing things, for she could've sworn that Koto's face had broken into a cheerful grin. "He's outside." She replied, trying to seem solemn and not-so-happy about this. But Liz caught onto Koto's expression.

"Look, if this is some prank - it's not funny anymore.." She replied, running out the front door with the rose. Nobody was there. The street was completely empty, and.. well, the shops seemed to be empty for once.

"...This isn't funny!" Liz couldn't handle it anymore. She threw the rose into the air with great force as she dropped onto the floor. Why did he have to hurt her like this? Why did he have to make every single rose black?

"...So, you don't think that this is funny either.."

A rose was in Jishou's hand. The redhead waved it in front of Liz's face, and let it drop to the floor as he kneeled down to her level. As Liz gazed into his eyes, the blonde couldn't help but notice the sadness that was in his eyes.

"I'm sorry, Liz. I didn't mean to hurt you like that." His voice wavered slightly as the boy tried to look away from Liz. It didn't work, however.

Liz wrapped her arms tightly around the elder boy, and began to break down into sobs. "N-no, you d-don't have to be sorry. I'm just as much at fault.." She buried her face into his chest, though she seemed to be.. actually enjoying this.

Jishou patted her on the back, and gave a weak smile. "You promise that we'll still pretend to hate each other, though?" He asked, trying to be cheerful as he spoke.

"Y-yeah. I think that'll work.." Liz replied, giving a weak smile. "Thanks, Jishou.. But please don't do this again..." She replied as she slowly started to wipe her tears away.

Jishou gave a nod. "I won't. But it was my pleasure, Liz.."
