It Takes Two: Chapter Twenty
...Twenty fandoms? o.o Granted, some are part of a series, but dang gina. That's pretty amazing. I'm not sure how much longer this is going to go on, so suggestions would be cool. I hope to finish this series soon, though..
Title: Voice
Fandom: Tales of the Abyss
Pairing: Luke x Tear
Disclaimer: Luke, Tear, and their world belong to Namco. Not me. o.o
Voice. Tr. V. "To pronounce with vibration of the vocal cords."
She was singing.
Luke never took much notice of Tear's voice - it was just always there, the same as everyone else's. She just happened to sing more than everyone else; it was how she battled.
The Seventh... fonon was the fonon of sound. That was what he had heard (not that he remembered if his tutor taught him that back at the manor) from Jade and Guy. Was that why Tear sung in battle? Because her songs made her attacks stronger?
It was a pointless question - of course she sang because it made her stronger.
Yet, as she sung... she sounded beautiful. He turned to his side, letting the grass brush against him. If she kept singing, he could be easily lulled to sleep. It was comforting, almost like the lullabies he begged Guy and his mother to sing to him as a child.
The white flowers of Tataroo Valley embraced him. The redhead closed his eyes, listening as she sung the last notes.
"That... was good," He murmured.
"Thanks," came the reply from Tear. He felt a slight breeze as something lay down beside him. Turning as he opened his eyes, Luke smiled as he saw the brunette beside her.
"Is it my turn?"
Tear laughed, her face looking a little amused. "If you can even sing."
Luke pouted slightly. "Course I can sing," He retorted. "I.. just don't know if I'm good at it."
He sat up, humming softly to himself for a minute. "What would you like me to sing? I'm no good at religious stuff like those Fonic Hymns.."
"Sing what you're best at," Tear replied, looking up at the cloud-filled sky. "You'll sing better when you sing what you want to."
"Sing what I want to, huh..?"
Looking thoughtful, Luke rested his hand under his chin. "Everybody's always talkin' at me," He began to sing, taking his hand down. "Everybody's tryin' to get in my head..."
He continued, closing his eyes and just letting the music control him. It was an odd feeling, letting his voice be controlled by a song that he had only heard once in his entire lifetime.
"To turn my life around~ Today is the day! Am I the type of guy who means what I say? Bet on it, bet on it, bet on it, bet on it!"
Tear held her hands up to clap; Luke silenced her by placing his hands up. "You can bet on me," He finished softly.
Now she clapped. "You're... not half bad," She finally replied, her lips curling in a genuine smile.
"I told you so," He added, lying back down.
Both of them exchanged smiles; they then looked up at the sky.
"It's nice out here," Luke murmured softly. "Could be here all day."
Tear nodded in agreement. "Yeah," She concurred. "Hey.. doesn't that cloud look like a sword?"
Luke looked in the direction of her gaze. "Yeah, it does," He admitted, laughing.
The rest of their afternoon went smoothly. From singing to cloud-watching to walking back to eat dinner together... one could have said that it was a real date. That is, if they ever admitted that it had been one. They were just too stubborn (or stupid) to realize it.
