[Digimon 02] Bouquet of Roses

Meh, I finally got around to the random Daikari one-shot I wanted to post. x3; Though, lately, I've noticed that I really should start calling my one-shots "drabbles" because they're really short...

Title: Bouquet of Roses
Pairing: Daikari; implied Takari
Summary: Told from Daisuke's POV; takes place six months after the end of 02.
Disclaimer: I don't own Digimon. e-e;

It had been a month - yes, a whole month - since I had last seen Hikari. It wasn't like I really had any desire to - after all, she was just another chosen child and a friend of mine. But... I couldn't help but wonder. What *was* she doing lately? I hadn't bothered to ask Taichi anything. After all, he was the over-protective brother. And most of the time, over-protective brothers don't like it when they're asked about their sisters.

So, I had made up my mind to make a move. I wanted to see if she actually knew that I loved her. No, not in the super-gross, fan-boyish way that I seemed to show earlier, when we were still chosen children fighting to save the Digital World. It was a different kind of love - you know, the love where people truly show that they care for each other. I was sure that I had gotten over her by now, but...

It was obvious, V-mon had said. I still hadn't gotten over her. And maybe.. if I make a move, she'll actually tell me how she feels about me. Like always, I have to expect rejection.

R-e-j-e-c-t-i-o-n. This was a word that I had known very well, and had personally experienced time after time with Hikari. It wasn't the kind of flat-out rejection. No, it was the subtle kind - but I still knew that she didn't want me around. Gradually, as I spent more time with others, then I realized that I should probably leave her alone...

Alone with Takeru. At first, I hated the idea. But Hikari seemed to enjoy it. If she enjoyed it, then I should probably leave those two alone. But... nothing had happened between them.

Yamato and Taichi seemed to be disappointed at that, and they would constantly bug Takeru to make a move on Hikari. As I listened, I slowly became sickened by their thoughts. But one of their thoughts always stayed in my mind. Even if Takeru never did make a move on Hikari, I think I will.

"Daisuke! Are you going to order those flowers, or what?"

I was rudely jolted back to reality by my digimon's words. I sent a glare in my digimon's direction. "Geez, V-mon. You didn't have to yell at me like that." I remarked, letting out a sigh as I spoke.

People were staring at me, since it looked like I was speaking to the "stuffed toy" on my head, but I had learned to ignore this by now. I opened the door of the store in front of me, and strolled up to the counter.

"Erm, excuse me? May I order a bouquet of red roses..?"

--------------------

The doorbell rang. A brown-haired girl looked up from her novel (which was one of those Harry Potter books), and blinked. Who could be at the door this time? She set the book aside, rose from her position on the bed, and began to walk to the door.

However, when she got there - it seemed that her elder brother had beaten her. The teenager was holding a bouquet of roses, and was looking throughly amused.

"Onii-chan?" The girl asked, tilting her head to the side. "Who are those flowers for?"

The teenager's face melted into a small smile. "It's for you, Hikari-chan. I don't know who it's from, since there's no tag on them, but it seems that somebody likes you." He replied, handing the bouqet to her as he spoke.

As her older brother spoke, Hikari's face became a deep shade of red. "....Eh? For me?" Upon seeing the nod from her older brother, she gave a sweet smile in his direction. "Well, that was certainly nice of him..."

It seemed to take forever for Hikari to walk out of sight. Right after one couldn't see the young girl anymore, a voice called clearly from the other side of the room. "You so knew who it was from, Taichi-kun."

Taichi sweatdropped. "So what if I knew? It's not like he's going to admit that he did it. I'm guessing that he thinks that Hikari-chan doesn't like him anymore..." The maple-haired teen replied, walking over to where the source of the voice was coming from. Unfortunately, he didn't realize that he had spoken loudly enough for his little sister to hear him.

All of the roses fell to the floor. It wasn't graceful at all - they just fell in one big heap, and one could almost hear the soft thud they made as they reached the floor. Hikari leaned against the wall, holding a single red rose in her hand. She pressed the petals to her face, muttering words under her breath. Words that probably would've meant a great deal to Daisuke if he could ever hear them.

"...I'm so sorry, Daisuke-kun...." She whispered to the wind. "Sorry that you never knew that I loved you..."
